Following Professor Jason Arday’s Race Review, which was published in February 2022, there has been engagement with a broad range of stakeholders from across LSTM to prioritise what actions staff want to see taken forwards to tackle race inequity at LSTM. In parallel, work has been done and resource has been allocated to create a governance structure to support LSTM’s race equity agenda, including the creation of a Race Equity Action Group and Chair role.
This role will support in the coordination and project management of the Race Equity Action Plan and will work alongside the Race Equity Action Group Chair on the institution’s eventual Race Equality Charter submission. The role provides an opportunity to make a difference and be part of organisational culture change. Working under the direction of the ED&I Manager, supporting with the delivery of race equity related activities including training and events.
The role will support the implementation of the Race Equity Action Plan, all race equity related activities as well as supporting the REAG Chair with the writing and project management of the Race Equity Charter submission. The role includes administration and support to LSTM’s ED&I manager with the wider ED&I agenda.
Key Responsibilities are:
• Provide project management support for the Race Equity Action Group in the implementation of the action plan and the preparation and submission of the Race Equity Charter. Including liaising with key stakeholders and gathering and collating relevant information in preparation for deadlines.
• Regularly disseminate data findings to university stakeholders and external stakeholders such as Advanced HE, working closely with LSTM’s Comms Team where necessary.
• To support the institutional understanding of REC by helping the Race Equity Action Group Chair gather and analyse data from various stakeholders and datasets to contribute towards the development of appropriate policies/activities and to support decision making in the context of the institutional REC award submission.
• Support the Race Equity Action Group Chair with writing the REC submission, including drafting, proof-reading, and editing copy when directed.
• Work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to develop targets and KPIs to review and report on the progress and effectiveness of race equity activities.
• Act as a point of liaison to the BAME network and race equity representatives from Education and when relevant engage with colleagues and students of colour to ensure their voices and contributions inform race equity work.
• Maintain up to date specialist knowledge of latest equity, diversity and inclusion thinking and changes to legislation particularly in relation to Race.

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both written and oral, in order to convey ideas and information to meet the needs of different audiences. Ideally you will be able to demonstrate:
• Strong project management skills

• Tackling race equity issues within organisations
• Managing multiple stakeholder expectations and competing demands
• Drafting communications to different audiences
